Just because I feel like taunting you all with delicious Japanese food.

dessert! mochi (sticky rice) balls, matcha ice cream, anko (sweet bean paste) and kanten jelly, served with sweet, carmelly molasses to pour over the top. This is from a cafe in a mall when we bought our futon. |

nabemono - Japanese style hot pot (by me :) ) |
|
gong bao ji ding - chinese dish, spicy chicken wok fried with chilis and peanuts. we got a wok and we know how to use it. |
|
I was on a Chinese food kick - 蛋花湯/dàn huā tāng/egg flower soup |

this meal has sushi and sashimi from the supermarket close by. |
This last photo has a bunch of the setomono/ceramics we bought from Seto. All the sushi was from a nearby supermarket. Only in Japan would I not be afraid to buy sashimi from a supermarket and eat it in massive quantities. It's only around $5 for all the sashimi you see and $4 for the nigiri (sushi on rice). And it tastes reaaaally good. Sure, you could go out and get incredible sushi that you would have recurring fantasy-dreams about for years to come at the amazing sushi restaurants here, but when you want a quick cheap meal, the supermarket is the furthest you need to go.
